Phacops is just one of the dozens of trilobite species to come from the Atlas Mountains in Morocco. Some of the species have only minute differences and are under an ever-evolving taxonomy and classification.
Phacops trilobites are often found enrolled in a defensive position. It had a globose head and large, compound eyes.
These ocean creatures inhabited shallow coastal environments, feeding on mollusks and utilizing opportunistic scavenging. Trilobites are one of the most successful groups of arthropods on earth, existing for a total of almost 270 million years.
