Manatees, or "sea cows," are 13-foot-long marine mammals that float through warm, shallow coastal areas munching on seagrasses. They are related to elephants with a similar way they replace teeth (new molars continually grow at the back of their mouths and slowly push out the old ones at the front) and can live for over 60 years.

These gentle giants are under threat of extinction due to boat strikes and loss/pollution of habitat. Each female only produces one calf, meaning population replacement is slow and low.
