This amethyst cluster has large crystals with a soft to deep lavender hue. The base is cut flat so it can steadily sit on a surface.
Amethyst is a variety of quartz that is most commonly formed in volcanic cavities/geodes through superheated water containing iron and dissolved quartz. As the temperature and pressure drops, the silica-rich fluids crystalize and line the cavity walls. Iron from the water and natural irradiation gives amethyst its purple color.
Amethyst is most commonly found in Brazil, but also occurs in places like North America, South Korea, Zambia, and Russia.
Amethyst is the traditional birthstone for February.
