Amethyst Geode
Just 200 years ago, the now semi-precious gemstone, amethyst, was as valued as diamonds and rubies. Amethyst is found worldwide in various formations, however, it is still unclear how amethyst geodes are created. It is accepted that they form when the minerals needed to make amethyst deposit crystals into gas bubbles that solidify within basaltic lava during igneous rock formation and in round cavities in sedimentary rock.
