Eurypterid - Eurypterus remipes
The New York State Fossil

The Eurypterus remipes was the first eurypterid fossil to be discovered and is the State Fossil of New York! These “sea scorpions” varied from only 5 inches long to over 4 feet in length. Although they look similar to today’s lobsters, the closest living relative to these creatures are actually horseshoe crabs, spiders, and scorpions.
