Rose quartz generally occurs in massive form, but it is possible to find clusters of small prismatic crystals. Known for its pink hue, rose quartz can range in color from a soft pale pink to a deeper red-pink. It also ranges in clarity from opaque to translucent and even rarely transparent. This mineral is found in many deposits around the world, especially in Brazil, Madagascar and South Dakota.
Rose quartz is commonly used for jewelry and lapidary projects because of its hardness of 7 and lack of cleavage. It has been a gemstone, utilized as a religious object, and used ornamentally for thousands of years.
