Enjoy the calming blue-green of this polished amazonite tower!
Amazonite is a potassium feldspar called microcline. Amazonite's vibrant blue-green color was previously believed to be from copper compounds, but recent studies in 1985 and through the 2000s suggest that the color is due to trace amounts of lead, iron, and rubidium mixed with other complicated factors.
Amazonite received its name from green stones that were taken from the Amazon River (although there is no known occurrences there). There is evidence of its use since the Ancient Egyptians, however, it was not recorded in any way until the 1700s.
It is only found in some parts of the world such as China, South Africa, Russia, Poland, and Colorado, Virginia and Pennsylvania. Amazonite crystals are often discovered in underground pegmatites and veins.
